Wow, had me on the edge of my seat, panting, wanting more, totally awesome despite the price. An exceptional experience, especially being a pilot or getaway passenger firing your way out of harm, totally realistic even to the degree the screen play had me yelling at the driver, who of course, couldn’t hear me. I thought I would never experience such a thrill in my lifetime. I sat there as did Luke Skywalker, smiling from ear to ear in awe. Now the downer bit, due to my age, +50, it took me over three days to accustom myself to the virtual movements where I originally became extremely hot and nauseous, sweat pouring off me. After a short program of ever-increasing timed exposures, my situation leveled out as my brain and body become accustomed to VR. Now it doesn’t affect me, and I play for hours. I still get warm after this length of time, but I take short breaks. Once this modified behavior is mastered, you will have a blast.

Good value for the experience.

This is the later model with headphones supplied that plug into the back of the headset. They are specifically designed to fit the unit and are a massive improvement, although you can use your own. They have removed the control box on the main cable to the headset. All very tidy! I am using the Standard model PS4.

Set Up:

The booklet makes it very easy, with diagrams and dedicated cables with numbers attached which really helped. No problem, but watch out for the front USB. For some reason, they wanted to plug this into the most outer USB on the front of the PS4 standard model. But it popped up USB cable with “X” in the headset (error). I placed the USB into the middle USB slot instead, and it then fired up.

Get your camera set up. I wanted this directly in front of me while sitting down; I don’t really want to do the standing-up stuff. So I raised the TV a bit on the wall and placed the camera on a little shelf for a good eyeline. If you have lots of room, it can be placed anywhere generally as long as you are playing in front of it.

Once the headset is switched on, you can go to settings on the PS4 and find the VR setting from there, follow all those, and do set your own eye distance! The PS4 fired up with an automatic update once it recognized the headset, which might add that extra menu under settings, devices. (scroll right down as there are two menus for devices)

My notes are specific to me. If you are in your 50s like me and wear glasses, you will need your long-distance glasses. Do not use your reading glasses, and my intermediate prescription was blurry too. After hours of playing around and nearly giving up and disappointingly unable to get a pin-sharp focus, I took some glasses I don’t wear often, as they are made for far distance (start focusing at about 1200mm), and Hey Presto absolute pixel perfect. You need long-distance glasses for this as the actual projection inside the headset is set at a similar distance as in the real world and not the glass in front of your eyes.

Resolution is acceptable once pin-sharp, depending on game design & quality, and after playing the X-Wing Demo VR (Battlefield game Disc or cheaper on the network), I don’t want to play 2D games again. Once the content increases, I’ll be investing in the PSVR 2, late 2022 hopefully!

All this for is worth every penny!

The VR system is absolutely phenomenal for any and all gamers, particularly in a pair or group. The item was sealed and packaged, arriving with tracked delivery to keep you up-to-date on arrival times. Fantastic seller, and would highly recommend them to other buyers!

Seriously, great fun! The only downside is I’ve bought about ten games since Christmas Day 🙂 It’s good fun!

Depending on where and how you angle your camera, switching between standing and sitting might not be so easy, so it’s best to find an angle that covers the majority of the room in case you want to switch from one to the other without having to get up, move the camera, and recalibrate.

But let’s back up. Up until now, the words “VR” and “virtual reality” have been thrown around a lot without much explanation.

VR has existed in one form or another for decades, but the modern version of the technology is more immersive and less nausea-inducing than it’s ever been. In more or less words, virtual reality is just that – a virtual world that gives you the experience of being somewhere else in a different time, at a different place – sometimes as far as an alien world, all without ever leaving your home.

And yes, it’s just as cool as it sounds.

If you want to be specific about it, PlayStation VR can handle 1080p games on its 920 x RGB x 1080 OLED display at either 90Hz (meaning that the image refreshes itself 90 times per second) or at 120Hz depending on the VR game or application.

And for those concerned about latency, Sony says that PlayStation VR’s response rate is locked in at around 18ms – which is about 0.002 seconds faster than the highest acceptable latency before you would notice the lag in VR.

Those numbers are great, but they’re matched by both the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. The one advantage Sony has that neither Oculus nor HTC can claim is that it’s actually a world-class game publisher. While the other two have been trying to create connections with developers over the past few years, Sony already has them.

As a result, the best PlayStation VR games list is being constantly updated with excellent fresh experiences, with plenty more arriving all the time. From shooters to puzzlers, platformers to narrative adventures, there’s variety and depth to PSVR’s growing gaming catalog.

There’s also another piece of hardware to consider when looking at buying a PlayStation VR, and that’s Sony’s brand-new, ultra-powered PS4 Pro. With additional processing power, the PS4 Pro is capable of creating an even more immersive virtual reality experience for the games that support it.

The improvements PS4 Pro promises can take many forms – from more detailed textures to better draw distances, and even a small reduction in graininess. The advantages differ from game to game, and the PS4 Pro is currently set up to only support games where the developer has enabled “Pro Mode,” a hardware boosting technology that tells the PS4 to use extra processing power.

The hardware improvements are noticeable, but it’s important to note that the standard PS4 can still provide a great VR experience. While the PS4 Pro offers some additional visual enhancements, the base PS4 is more than capable of delivering an immersive and enjoyable virtual reality experience.

Whether you choose to go with the PS4 Pro or stick with the standard PS4, the PlayStation VR Starter Pack provides everything you need to jump into the world of virtual reality. The bundle includes the PlayStation VR headset, the PlayStation Camera, and PlayStation VR Worlds, which offers a collection of VR experiences to get you started.

Setting up the PlayStation VR is straightforward, thanks to the included instructions and dedicated cables with numbered labels. The PlayStation Camera is essential for tracking your movements and positioning in the virtual world. You can place it in front of you while sitting down or find an angle that covers the majority of the room if you prefer to switch between standing and sitting gameplay.

Once the headset is switched on and connected to your PS4 or PS4 Pro, you can navigate to the VR settings to customize your experience. Adjusting the eye distance is crucial for achieving optimal clarity, especially for users who wear glasses. It’s recommended to use long-distance glasses instead of reading glasses or intermediate prescriptions for a pin-sharp focus.

With the PlayStation VR headset properly set up, you’re ready to dive into the world of virtual reality gaming. The immersive experience is enhanced by the high visual quality, 3D audio, and intuitive controls of the PlayStation VR system. From high-octane racing games to battling dragons, exploring deep space, or facing nerve-shredding horror, the PlayStation VR offers a wide range of games and experiences to suit every taste.

One of the standout features of PlayStation VR is its extensive library of games. Sony’s strong relationships with game developers ensure a steady stream of new and exciting VR titles. The games range from shooters and puzzlers to platformers and narrative-driven adventures, providing a diverse gaming catalog with depth and variety.

It’s also worth mentioning that PlayStation VR is compatible with PlayStation 5, allowing you to continue enjoying your virtual reality experiences on the latest console from Sony.

Overall, the PlayStation VR Starter Pack offers an exceptional value for those looking to enter the world of virtual reality gaming. With its immersive gameplay, extensive game library, and easy setup process, it provides an ultimate and unforgettable gaming experience for both individuals and families alike.
